TOP LOCAL guitarist Julian Socha will be among performers bringing music to historic Haworth pub this weekend.

His performance tomorrow at the Black Bull comes between tonight’s open mic session and Saturday’s gig by acoustic duo Strung To The Sky.

John Sargent, one of the organisers of Haworth Festival, urged people to go along to the main Street pub to check out its vibrant new music scene.

John said: “There is a new feeling about the Black Bull since a change of management earlier this year and much of that revolves around live music.

“Jim Winchester, one of the new landlords, plays in the Electric Lizards and his love of music is spilling over into making the Black Bull into a major music venue for the area.”

John said Julian Socha, who plays a unique blend of blues and country music, was one of the best guitarists in the area.

He said: “Julian first picked up a guitar when he was six or seven. Being left handed he played it upside down for a while.

“From then on he was hooked and played on and off for a few years until eventually he found a weekend job to pay for for some guitar lessons.

“Blues has always been his first love, especially delta blues, and he is very inspired by slide players such as Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton.”

West Yorkshire based duo Strung To The Sky, play tracks from their debut EP Daydreaming, have been described by John as “fabulous”.

He said: “The two teenage singer songwriters teamed up after busking together on the tough Northern streets in all weathers and have performed over 100 gigs.

“They have an eclectic range of influences from people like Noah Gunderson, Bon Iver, Iron & Wine and Ryan Adams.

“However Strung To The Sky have a very distinctive sound of their own. They can take a song from a whisper to a scream and back again, leaving you shaken and stirred!”

The Black Bull, at the top of Main Street, was famous as the haunt of Branwell Brontë and his friends during the 1800s.
