POPULAR performer Annie Drury returns to the Groovy Happening this Saturday.

She is part of a line-up at the Haworth concert night dominated by singers-songwriters.

Annie will share the stage with Guello, Kieran O’Malley, Danny Aspinall and Joseph Pointon.

The Yorkshire Post said that Annie’s songs were based on tales of her life.

They feature a cast of colourful characters and poignant events and are delivered with witty prose and a boundless imagination.

Annie has recently been featured on the BBC Radio 2 playlist with her single Someday.

She will be joined on stage for some of her songs by fiddler Kieran O’Malley.

Annie was born into a musical family from an Irish folk background.

Her father was a singer-songwriter and her late grandfather was a well-known flautist in the London/Irish music scene from the late 1940s .

Both were strong inspirational figures during Annie’s early years.

Annie’s songwriting has been influenced by timeless, classic female artists such as Joni Mitchel, Carol King and Kate Bush.

Also on Saturday’s bill will be the duo Guello, consisting of guitarist Mark Edwards and cellist Katherine Martin.

The pair will play a set from their album The Starfish And The Anglepoise Lamp, featuring ‘songs from the heart’ written by Mark.

Guello are returning to Groovy Happening after a successful performance in March.

Danny Aspinall is a 17-year-old singer-songwriter from Oakworth, who aims to bring an an aspect of rock to the acoustic genre.

He is an experienced face on the local music scene and is becoming recognised as an up-and-coming performer on the Leeds venue circuit.

Danny plays material similar to classic Americana rock and is heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi.

Joseph Pointon is a young singer-songwriter from Cross Hills who has been writing songs for about five years. His songs are based on his real-life experiences.

Groovy Happening spokesman Ann Wiles said: “Joe will be starting off a brilliant night of performers mostly playing their original work.”

The Groovy Happening is at the Parkside Social Club, Butt Lane, Haworth, from 7.30pm.

The admission charge is £3, and there will be a raffle. Proceeds go to Manorlands.

The Groovy Happening has raised £12,250 for the Oxenhope hospice in the three years since it first started.
