ORGANISERS of the 2015 Haworth 1940s Weekend are on a mission to raise £15,000.

They say the popular event is growing bigger each year, bringing with it rising health and safety and logistics costs.

Organising committee spokesman John Taylor said: "The initial cost that requires covering amounts to £15,000.

"To raise this initial sum we've decided to run a raffle with three prizes of £1,000, £500 and £100.

"Pubs, cafes and businesses will be asked to sell these tickets – £1 each in books of five – and the winning tickets will be drawn on the evening of May 17 next year.

"From December a leader board will show the state of sales of tickets through the major businesses, so an element of competition can be generated.

"A prize will be made to the business that sells most tickets.

"We're also encouraging businesses to hold fundraisers and will support these via our social media sites."

Next year's 1940s event takes place over the weekend of May 15/16/17 and organisers are now recruiting marshals. People should e-mail johntaylorwml@btinternet.com if they are prepared to volunteer.
