AFTER 16 years Burley Theatre Group is once again staging Alan Bennett’s well-loved play Habeas Corpus.
The play concerns the ageing Dr Arthur Wicksteed and his pursuit of young, attractive patient Felicity Rumpers.
His wife Muriel is, in turn, lusting after her old love, Sir Percy Shorter, who as well as being Wicksteed’s old rival, has other attractions within the Wicksteed household, which leads to some hilarious misunderstandings.
Formed in 1997 and then known as the Burley Millennium Theatre group, the group's first play was Habeas Corpus and was performed in May 1998.
It was directed by local English teacher and writer Walter Swan, who died earlier this year. Walter wrote, directed and produced many of Burley’s early pantomimes and for a number of years ran a successful junior drama group.
The latest production of the play is running until tomorrow at 7.30pm in Queen’s Hall, Burley in Wharfedale.
