X-FACTOR winner Alexandra Burke is coming to Bradford Alhambra to head the cast of new musical The Bodyguard.

She is playing the leading role of Rachel Marron in the stage version of the well-known 1992 movie, which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

She is continuing the role following her sell-out run in the musical at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End.

Alexandra, a three-time Brit Award nominee, will perform in the evening performances of The Bodyguard in Bradford from June 2 to 13.

She said: “I couldn't be happier to be joining the tour and I'm excited to get started. Being on the theatre stage has brought me great happiness.”

Alexandra Burke rose to fame after winning the fifth series of The X Factor. Her debut number one

single Hallelujah sold over one million copies in the UK, a first for a British female soloist.

Alexandra’s first album Overcome saw the release of her subsequent number one singles Bad Boys and Start Without You.

In 2011 she embarked on her first solo tour and was invited by Beyoncé to support her I Am... Tour. Alexandra second album, Heartbreak On Hold, was released in June 2012 and later this year sees the release of her third studio album.

The musical version of The Bodyguard was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards, and won Best New Musical at the Whatsonstage Awards.

The show portrays the relationship between Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, and pop superstar Rachel Marron.

Frankie is hired to protect Britain from an unknown stalker. Each of them expects to be in charge, but neither expects to fall in love.

The show, described as a romantic thriller, features hit songs including So Emotional, One Moment In Time, Saving All My Love, Run To You, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and the megaseller from the original movie, I Will Always Love You.
