Gerry And The Hatricks – Haworth Parish Church.

A LARGE audience attended the Friday night concert in Haworth Parish Church by Gerry And The Hatricks, a swing big band performing in aid of the church’s restoration fund.

The church has excellent acoustics and the band rose to the occasion.

They were fronted by their band leader John Large, who guided us seamlessly through a varied selection of pieces, commencing with Gershwin's Strike Up The Band followed by a range of Glenn Miller classics and Satin Doll, a Duke Ellington arrangement.

All players performed with gusto, giving a rich band sound handling both mellow and brash when required.

Michaela Smith sang beautifully, a nice choice of songs from Blue Moon to The Girl From Ipanema. A brief spell of audience participation closed the first half with a Beatles medley.

After an interval of mulled wine and shortbread we embraced the Christmas spirit with the band transporting us via Carol Swingers and Frosty The Snowman, and Michaela sang Let It Snow and of course I'll Be Home For Christmas.

The evening culminated in a further range of seasonal favourites sending us home well entertained and enthusing that there's only a few shopping days to Christmas.
