TRADITION and modern day come together in the next pantomime from Keighley Amateurs.

The Amateurs are using one of the tried-and-tested scripts from Keighley panto kings Keith Marsden and the late Geoffrey Rundle.

But the group promise a fresh and fun show bursting with up-to-date music and humour when the performers hit the stage next month.

Cinderella will be performed from January 24 to 31 at Victoria Hall in Keighley.

Amateurs spokesman David Brett said: “This year’s pantomime is going to be a treat for the entire family.

"Cinderella is one of the all time panto favourites and promises to be a hugely successful show.”

“We take you to the town of Stonybroke where we find the Baron and his daughter Cinderella.

“It’s not enough that Cinderella is picked on by her ugly stepsisters, Deidre and Josephine, but the nasty debt collectors Snatchem and Grabbem are never far away.”

The show will this year be directed by Peter Whitley, who for many years played the Keighley panto’s comedy lead, and resident choreographer Judith Chapman.

There will be a cast of more than 40 children and adults, and the musical direction is as usual from John Sandland.

David said the cast of the family show would this year have a fresh look.

He said: “Leading the talented cast is Stephanie Laycock as Prince Charming, Alice Chapman as Dandini, Brogan Hollindrake as Cinderella and Philip Smith as Buttons.

“We of course have yet another talented team of kiddies, and first-time Keighley Amateurs appearances for Paul Bamber and Paul Jennings as the ugly step-sisters.

Cinderella is performed on January 27, 28, 30 and 31 at 7.15pm, January 24 at1pm and 5.30pm, and January 25 and 31 at 2.15pm.
