RICHARD Herring the stand-up comedian will be in Leeds this spring with his new show Lord Of The Dance Settee.

Richard said he wanted a change after covering weighty issues like death, love, religion and spam javelins during previous tours.

The man, hailed as The King Of Edinburgh following hit Fringe appearances, will be in a more frivolous mood when he performs at the City Varieties on May 9.

The new show is about daftness, whether the term ‘cool comedian’ is an oxymoron, bouncing joyously on the sofa, and how Richard’s whole career is a failed attempt to top a piece of visual slapstick comedy he came up with at 16.

Richard Herring was formerly one half of a stand-up comedy double act with Stewart Lee, best known for television work including Fist of Fun and This Morning With Richard Not Judy.

He co-wrote and presented the history-based sketch show That Was Then, This Is Now and has written for television including Al Murray's sitcom Time Gentlemen Please and his own ITV comedy drama You Can Choose Your Friends.

Richard has won the Chortle Internet award for three consecutive years and his Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast won Bronze for Best Comedy at the Sony Awards.

Also coming up at the City Varieties is comedian Andy Parsons in his latest show Live and Unleashed - But Naturally Cautious, on March 4.

Count Arthur Strong will be at the City Varieties on March 5 and 6 to present his show Somebody Up There Licks Me! following multiple series on BBC Radio 4 and BBC 2.
