BEN Blue Waters flies the flag for local talent on Saturday when he performs at the Groovy Happening.

Ben, appearing at the popular Haworth music night for the second time, is the only local performer on the line-up.

He is a solo acoustic slide guitar player and singer, who performs blues songs from the 1920s onwards.

Groovy spokesman, Ann Wiles, said Ben had been gigging since the 70s, playing various genres, from R&B to punk to avant garde.

Ann added: “He’s always maintained a deep love of simple country blues of artists like Son House and Robert Johnson, and the urban blues of Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.”

Ann promised a wonderful line-up on Saturday with three ‘new to us’ bands sharing the stage with Ben.

She said: “The Jon Palmer Acoustic Band is a six-piece folk, roots and rock ‘n’ roll combo based in and around the musically vibrant West Yorkshire market town of Otley.

““The line-up includes guitars, mandolin, whistle, double bass, violin and drums. Everyone sings!”

Members of the Ruby Stone Sound Collective got together in September 2013 after working with other bands.”

Ann said: “Hopefully they can bring their own influences together to create a mixture of music to suit all.

“Covers from the likes of Joan Armatrading, Aretha Franklin, Rickie Lee Jones, Buggles, Boz Scaggs, Beth Heart, Fleetwood Mac and ELO are all groovy tunes they hope we will enjoy!”

Completing the programme will be Farrago, an occasional acoustic collaboration between two very experienced musicians.

Ann said: “You’ll find their CDs in the ‘Americana/Folk’ section, but they prefer not to pigeon-hole themselves.”

The Groovy Happening is at the Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane, with doors opening at 7.30pm.

Admission is £3, and there is a raffle and disco until late.
