Truth + Dare -- KYDZ Keighley Youth Theatre

A NEW play Truth + Dare brought a lot of pleasure to the cast and audience alike last Friday and Saturday.

The plot suited the young company – 20-strong and aged nine to 18 – perfectly since it was a kind of flashback in reverse, ranging from their staged political activity to what they got up to in school.

Truth + Dare showed what happened after a new editor was brought in to change a boring old school magazine.

The leader Frankie was confidently played by Emily Shepherd, whose strong singing voice certainly encouraged her mates who spoke of their lines and sang their songs with tremendous gusto, making any microphones unnecessary.

David Knights was the master of ceremonies behind-the-scenes, assisted by Sevi Ledgard’s firm choreography and a team who took endless trouble with the staging, lighting and smoke effects.

We were in the 1980s where Whatever You Want and other favourites rang out to bass, drums, guitar and keyboard accompaniment.

It was something they will remember for the rest of their lives. Bravo!
