GROOVY Happening is in its fourth year and is still going strong.

That is the cry from Ann Wiles, one of the volunteer organisers, as she reveals the “fantastic” line-up for this Saturday’s show.

She said: “There is lots of interest from musicians who want to play for us, and we have good feedback after events about the friendly atmosphere and supportive audiences.”

The show features the Groovy debut of Bradford singer-songwriter Darren Ellis, who promises good riffs and relatable lyrics.

Gurgles are a three piece from Bradford featuring swirling Fender Rhodes electric piano, echoing vocals and bass and drums.

With a psychedelic sensibility and a mix of influences from Jim O’Rourke to Robert Wyatt and Steely Dan, Gurgles have a roster of prog-pop songs. Their first single, You Send Me Up, was named as one of the seven-inch singles of the year by Seattle blog The Finest Kiss, and their debut album, also on vinyl, will be out later in the year.

Polydroids are described as a supergroup featuring members of RedLorry YellowLorry and Foxes Faux.

Ann said: “Together with original band members, this group have created an album dedicated to the band’s original drummer, who died a year ago. Expect a range of brilliantly-conceived, quirky, melodious rock tunes as they showcase their brand new album.”

Izzy will play the Happening for the third time.

Ann said: “Izzy is a great musician and likes a wide range of music spanning about 40 years. Rock and indie are probably his favourite categories.”

The Groovy Happening is at the Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane, Haworth on Saturday from 7.30pm. Admission is £3, with late disco and raffle, and proceeds go to Manorlands hospice.
