THREE, two, one – Gerry Cooper is returning to the local blues and roots night.

Gerry has appeared at Ben Waters’s monthly event in a trio with Bessie’s Blues and in a duo with Phil Snell.

This month he will play a solo set at the popular event in the Black Bull, Main Street, Haworth.

Blues singer-guitarist Ben said the April 19 event would be another excellent night with three of the region’s top acoustic acts.

The performers at the evening concert also include acoustic duo Strid and headliners the Diamond Dac Trio.

Gerry, originally from Newcastle, has played in ceilidh bands, Irish rock groups, pit bands for musicals, and church groups.

Ben said: “His first love has always been solo acoustic blues.

“Listening to the pre-war recordings of the old blues players was a major influence in his youth and has become increasingly important as the years have rolled on.

“Gerry now performs at clubs, festivals and pubs: anywhere that will have him - or where he can sneak in unnoticed!”

Gerry plays six and 12-string acoustic guitars, a Michael Messer ‘Lightning’ resophonic guitar, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, banjo and bass.

Ben said that Strid had an impressive and eclectic repertoire, including modern folk, blues, classic rock and Americana.

He said: “Combining rich vocal harmonies and a punchy guitar style Strid have attracted many fans and bookings in Yorkshire and beyond."

The Diamond Dac Trio play an infectious brand of old-time traditional, acoustic, fingerpicking American roots blues from the 1920s and before.

Ben will host the evening and start things off with a short set of footstomping slide guitar blues.
