A GREAT variety of music and styles is on offer at next month’s Groovy Happening.

The line-up in Haworth on Saturday will be Plumhall, Julian Socha, the Lesley Hall Band, Spence and the Young Singer Songwriters.

Plumhall are Michelle Plum and Nick Hall, a feisty Yorkshire duo who perform award-winning self-penned songs.

They have gained plaudits from the likes of R2 Magazine, the Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt and Show Of Hands’s Steve Knightley.

Groovy spokesman Ann Wiles said: “The pair deliver guitar and harmony driven textures of folk, Americana and pop, and have been wowing audiences on the live acoustic circuit in the UK.”

Winners of the Yorkshire Gig Guide Outstanding Songwriters award 2014, Plumhall were recently joined on stage by Bob Dylan's legendary guitarist Larry Campbell at the Black Swan in York.

The Lesley Hall Band is a classic, jazzy, funky soul band born out of the Live At The Lounge sessions in Baildon, and the band features members from the bands Radio City and The Loungers.

Julian Socha is a very experienced musician who has performed across the UK and Europe both solo and with bands.

He said blues had always been his first love, especially Delta blues, and he is inspired by slide players such as Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton, and Mississippi blues players such as Fred McDowell and RL Burnside.

Ann said: “Living back in Yorkshire has enabled Julian to establish himself on the thriving acoustic live scene.”

Spence, a well-known they were singer-songwriter popular with the Groovy audience, will be playing his own work and some covers.

Young Singer Songwriters are a group of music students from Calder High School who have attended Plumhall’s White Ribbon Campaign songwriting workshop at Mytholmroyd.

Ann said: “The turnout was incredible and the enthusiasm extraordinary. They are over the moon to be able to perform the songs they've written in a proper gig setting at Groovy Happening.”

The Groovy Happening is at the Parkside Social Club, Butt Lane, Haworth, on Saturday (May 2) from 7.30pm, with a disco and a raffle. Admission is £3, with proceeds going to Manorlands.
