THE DEMON Barbers will bring their latest tour to an end on Saturday with a performance in Doncaster.

The Haworth-based folk band are touring their XL show to promote their new album Disco At The Tavern.

The band plan to take the show – which features dancing alongside the music – to a clutch of summer music festivals.

The show and album were launched last month with shows in Leeds, Gateshead and Keswick.

Band founder Damien Barber, from Haworth, said: “We had a total ball, lots of fun and great audiences!”

The Demon Barbers rose to national renown by winning a BBC Folk Award for their popular Roadshow, which added morris and rapper dancing to the band’s long-established musical set.

This was followed by theatre shows, funded by the Arts Council England, which brought together traditional and modern English dance, from Morris and clog to hip-hop and B-boy.

The shows, Time Gentleman Please and The Lock-In, was set in a pub where regulars clashed with visitors and showed off the various dance styles.

Saturday’s show is at the Cast theatre in Doncaster. Visit castindoncaster.com or call 01302 303959 for further information.

Coming up at Cast are: Claire Vinkesteijn, June 12; Comedy Club, June 19; West End To Broadway, July 4-5; musical Avenue Q, July 7-11; Treasure Island, July 16-18; pantomime Sleeping Beauty, December 4 to January 3.
