A SHOW blending dance and the movement of boxing is being performed in Bradford’s City Park.
Savage Beauty is performed by Sheffield-based Hype Dance Company, set up by Anna Olejnicki, who saw the potential for community theatre “drawing on the movement and emotion seen in boxing, layered with hip-hop dance”.
In 2012, she worked with former professional boxer and boxing manager Brendan Ingle, who coached boxing champ Prince Naseem and Commonwealth and world champions, on an educational project.
They developed Savage Beauty, outdoor street theatre paying homage to Sheffield’s Ingle Gym.
Hype Dance runs educational projects and has links with dance and community organisations in Bradford.
Savage Beauty features young dancers from the district, and it takes place in a boxing ring surrounded by the audience.
Brendan said: “I knew Savage Beauty was an exciting concept when Anna discussed the idea and I have been very happy to get involved.”
Savage Beauty will be in City Park on June 14 at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
