THE MUGENKYO Taiko Drummers return to Halifax on Thursday next week for one night at the Square Chapel.

They promise a spellbinding display of sheer athleticism with thundering rhythms on huge Taiko drums, and mysterious masked choreography masked with inventive lighting.

There will also be muscular synchronisation timed to perfection, post-apocalyptic martial imagery and infectious belly-laugh humour.

The Square Chapel will tomorrow host a concert of early baroque music by the acclaimed period performance group Arioso Ensemble.

Paul Lamb And The King Snakes will present the finest rhythm and blues on Saturday, promising mind-blowing energy and electrifying stage presence.

Sharp’s Appalachian Harvest, made up of folk music masters Geoff Davis and Brian Peters, will be at the Square Chapel on Sunday to combine voices, fiddle, banjo and guitar with images and narrative.

The pair will portray the story of English song hunter Cecil Sharp’s quest for old ballads and tunes in the Appalachian Mountains.

The Dana Dixon Band, performing on June 5, feature a woman regarded as one of the world’s finest female blues harmonica players, whose vocals have been compared to Big Mama Thornton and Janis Joplin.

She will perform an intoxicating mix of Texas and Chicago blues, jump swing blues, rockabilly and 50s rock ‘n’ roll.

Jaleo Flamenco will return to the Square Chapel on June 14 with a spellbinding fusion of acoustic guitar, rhythm, songs, hand-clapping and ignitable dance.

Halifax Chamber Choir will perform Night And Day, an evening of choral music, jazz and classical pieces, on June 20.
