KEIGHLEY filmmaker Danny Hardaker is no stranger to weirdness after filming a zombie flick with local teenagers.

That movie won Danny and his cast and crew, from arts group Smallworld, an award at Keighley’s RATMA international film festival.

Danny has returned to the land of strange to create a video for the song I Got You by local band Ed Stones And The BD3.

The filmmakers chose the theme of a rockabilly horror movie with particular nods to suspense thriller classic Psycho.

Danny said: “I've been wanting to do a video for Ed Stones And The BD3 for some time as I knew they would be up for doing something weird that is out of the norm.

“I'm a huge horror film fan so this was a lot of fun to make. The song has a romantic element but it also has a dark side.”

Danny shot the video over two days at two main locations, The Mill in Bradford where the band was allowed to use the stage, and the Ed’s flat in Bingley.

Danny prepared for the shoot for about a month, collecting props and items of costume.

He recruited a team of people who all lived locally, including lighting engineers and Hugh Jart who painted a stage backdrop.

He said: “It took a while to collect all the props and get the team together but once we did everything fell into place.

“The Keighley area is filled with creative people ready and willing to get their hands dirty. We were lucky with the crew that we assembled as they were all working to a very professional standard.

“We faced a number of minor obstacles as is always the case in film-making but everyone was so well prepared we shot everything we needed to and more."

Danny said he was “incredibly lucky” to have Kristina Spencer and Karen McLeod, providing special make-up effects for the more gruesome aspects of the video.

He added: “They provided such a professional make-up job for our model, and also brought along a bag full of incredibly realistic severed hands and even a severed head that all came in useful!”

Danny said he normally produced promotional videos for a variety of organisations, closely following the client’s briefs, so the Ed Stones video allowed him to “just go wild” creatively.

He added: “It was definitely fast-paced gonzo film-making which for this project worked really well!”

Ed Stones And The BD3 will play the Working Men’s Club at the Beat Herder Festival, which runs from July 17-19. Visit beatherder.co.uk for further information and to book tickets.
