A HAWORTH artist is exhibiting her work at Skipton’s Mill Bridge Gallery.

Travel On The Edge is showing Judy’s bright, bold abstract canvasses, which have been inspired by the many countries in which she has lived and worked.

Much of her work was inspired by her recent travels to Thailand, Laos and Bali, as well as her past home in Italy and her present home in Yorkshire.

Judy has moved house and studio so many times that her work is broken into collections from each different country.

She said: “Change can be exciting when you learn to live with it and learn from it."

Born in a small town in the middle of the USA, Judy has spent all her adult life elsewhere, living in eight different countries.

She holds dual nationality, as an American and British citizen.

Judy said: "I have led a rather nomadic lifestyle all my adult life, always on the edge of any given culture – a traveller or an immigrant/ex-pat forever on the move.

“It has given me a different perspective about the world’s environment. Beauty is everywhere but it is not for me to merely record what I see.

“I want to create a new presence, a unique expression that both the viewer and I, the painter, can share and relate to.”

Judy said the artwork in Travel On The Edge incorporated her own marks and methods from a previous more abstract style, but with the introduction of digital photos she took on site.

Besides her art, Judy is involved in restoring ancient buildings and is responsible for a number of properties being tastefully restored in Cyprus and Italy as well as in the UK.

The exhibition was launched at the gallery last month, when Judy talked about her work, and it will run until August 29.
