KAST OFF Kinks are no tribute band peopled by wannabes in funny wigs – they’re the real thing.

The band consists of musicians who at one time or another have played with iconic British rock band The Kinks.

The guys will be at Bingley Parts Centre on November 27 to perform songs like You Really Got Me, Sunny Afternoon, Dead End Street, Waterloo Sunset and Come Dancing.

A spokesman said that the Kinks were often cited as one of the most important and influential rock bands of all time.

Their first hit, You Really Got Me, in 1964, broke new ground with driving power chords and Dave Davies’ distorted guitar sounds, the sound going on to influence heavy metal, new wave and grunge.

Later work saw the band’s style change to more melodic songs, highlighting Ray Davies’ lyrical and observational skills in songs.

The band’s popularity in the UK waned in the 1970s, but they found commercial success in the USA into the early 1980s, returning to the UK Top 20 in 1983 with Come Dancing. During the band’s 32-year career there were various changes in personnel.

The Kast Off Kinks formed in 1994 with most of the original line-up that played classic song Lola, and by 2009 the line-up had changed to those who played during the 1983 comeback.

Almost every other ex-Kink, including singer Ray Davies, has performed at one time or another with the band.
