A WHOLE new band of dwarfs help Snow White as Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company present their version of the famous story.

Out go Disney favourites like Dopey, Sneezy and Doc during the group’s annual family pantomime at Sutton Village Hall next month.

But Sneaky, Moody, Tiny and their pals promise just as much some, dance, laughter, romance and adventure in a traditional family show.

The panto follows the well-known story with young Princess Snow White forced to hide from her wicked stepmother in the forest.

There she meets six little men – and one rather taller one – who themselves have been forced to flee the evil queen.

There’s Kapitan, leader of the group, and his sidekick Moody who finds it hard to see the good side of anything.

Cheery little dwarf Ditzy always sees the good side, but the other dwarfs are puzzled why he’s so interested in lipstick and shaving off his beard.

Dusty is obsessed with cleaning up the cottage and the mine, while Sneaky can’t help stealing everything he finds.

Then there’s Phoebe, who’s scared of everything from small rooms to open spaces, spiders to wolves.

Completing the seven is Tiny, found on the doorstep as a baby and standing out both for his bright-red suit and his less-than-dwarfish height.

The dwarfs clash with the queen, the huntsman and the handsome prince as the story progresses.

They eventually realise their true enemy is the Mirror, a ruthless magician who has the queen under a trance and is plotting to break free from the confines of her glass frame.

Snow White is as usual written by Green Hut members Philip Smith and David Knights who for the past decade have been devising the group’s annual pantos, ranging from Aladdin and Dick Whittington to panto versions of classic stories like Alice In Wonderland and A Christmas Carol.

Their version of Snow White features a host of popular songs including Help!, Everything Is Awesome, Surfin’ USA, Atmosphere, Our House, What Is This Feeling, Beg Steal Or Borrow and Boom Bang A Bang.

The title role in Snow White is taken by Roxy Williams who has played many roles for the Green Hut Theatre Company and Skipton Little Theatre.

Emma Jayne-Byers plays Prince Stephen, hoping to win over Snow White while leading the fight against the Mirror, and he is accompanied by servant Desmond played by Francesca Tetley.

Philip Smith and Dean Harness, Sutton’s long-serving game and sidekick comedy duo, play the queen and huntsman.

Philip has for the past two years played leading roles in the Keighley Amateurs pantomime, including Buttons in their version of Cinderella.

The Mirror is played by Katrina Knights who has been performing in pantomimes and musicals with the Sutton group for more than two decades.

The production team is director David Knights, musical director David Boddy and choreographer Emma-Jayne Byers.

Snow White will be at Sutton Village Hall from December 9 to 12 at 7.15pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm. Call 01535 632289 to book tickets.
