NORTHERN Ballet will perform a new dance version of classic novel Jane Eyre as part of its new season.

The Leeds-based theatre company will present Cathy Marston’s imagining of Charlotte Brontë’s novel, along with adaptations of other classic tales.

Storytelling and dance will combine in the return of audience favourite Swan Lake, the continued touring of 1984 and the first UK tour of children’s ballet Tortoise And The Hare.

Marking the 200th anniversary of Charlotte Brontë’s birth, Northern Ballet will hold the world premiere of Jane Eyre at Cast in Doncaster in May before touring to Richmond, Aylesbury, Wolverhampton, Stoke and Leicester.

Northern Ballet describes Jane Eyre as the ultimate dramatic tale of romance, jealousy and dark secrets, and a story of one woman’s indomitable spirit overcoming all boundaries.

Northern Ballet will revive David Nixon OBE’s Swan Lake, performed to Tchaikovsky’s moving score, with a tour beginning at Leeds Grand from March 3 to 12.

Following a triumphant world premiere in September last year, 1984, which was acclaimed “the ballet equivalent of a page-turner”, will continue to tour around the UK.

Northern Ballet will take new children’s ballet Tortoise And The Hare on its inaugural UK tour from February to June, portraying much-loved Aesop’s fable about a determined Tortoise who challenges a speedy Hare in a race.
