KEIGHLEY's globe-trotting cheerleader Sian Reid could compete in a second world championship this year.

Former Oakbank School student Sian, who runs the Team X-Treme cheerleading team at Keighley Cougars, has been asked to try out for Team England in the summer.

The invite came as a result of her success at the recent Cheerleading and Dance World Championships in Florida, where she secured third place representing England.

Sian, 17, was this week praised by bosses at Craven College where she studying for a Sport Fitness Pathway qualification.

Sian said: “I was proud to represent England – I was the only under-18 and the youngest in the competition.

“Craven College helped me out by being flexible with my studies and with the use of the new gym they made it easy for me to gain the right level of fitness I needed to compete.”

Sian’s tutor Mohammed Shaban said: “This is a great achievement and something we are all very proud of.

“We hope Sian continues to develop her cheerleading. It is fantastic that the college can support students in achieving International Recognition.”

In the Cheerleading and Dance World Championships, Sian’s team, the Leeds-based Aviator Allstars Team Stealth, came 15th out of 60 qualifying participants.

While in her mid-teens Sian was a cheerleader at the Rugby World Cup, danced in music videos and won the European Championships.

She last year started the Team X-Treme School of Dance and Cheer, , which dances during Keighley Cougars matches. as well as offering gymnastics, street dance and cheerleading classes.
