NEW YORK, New York, so good they named it twice.

Two bands from the Big Apple are crossing the Atlantic again to perform for a second time at Keighley Blues Club.

The Hitman Blues Band and the New York City Horns will be the joint headliners at the club in Cougar Park’s Hall of Fame on June 10.

A club spokesman said: “After the Hitman’s last visit to Keighley in October 2014 we knew we simply couldn’t miss out.

A spokesman said: “Charismatic guitarist/vocalist, Grammy nominee Russell ‘Hitman’ Alexander and the rest of the band are all real deal New Yorkers.

“They know how to entertain, putting on a show of music so good that they will make you glad that music exists in the first place.

“Born to perform, the consummate showman Russell tells stories and jokes with the crowd and proudly features his excellent band whilst leading from the front with spiky guitar, great panache and soul.”

Since their formation in 1986 the band has shared stages with Johnny Copeland, LaVette Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, The Ink Spots and Whitney Houston.

The spokesman added: “With influences ranging from Elmore James to The Beatles anything could happen!”

The Hitman Blues Band and the New York City Horns’s UK tour coincides with release of a new album entitled The World Moves On.

Playing Keighley Blues Club on July 1 will be Rebecca Downes, with guest Jilly Riley.

Rebecca, from Wolverhampton, made her stage debut at age eight in a school musical and fronted her first band at 13.

She soon became stifled by simply performing ‘covers’ so she learned enough chords to start writing songs in the style of her heroes Maggie Bell, Bonnie Raitt and Tina Turner.

Her style has since matured into a kind of rocky blues with a funky edge, epitomised by her album Back To The Start.

Jilly Riley is a solo artist from South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, creating “tasty little soulful treats for your hungry ears”.

Her home-made, original music features flavours of funk, soul, blues, wrapped in love and glazed with the golden sound of the hippy era.
