THE SOUND Of Bradford is a new project which aims to help local young people into music careers.

The project, which begins with a free summer scheme from August 15 to 19, is open to anyone attending a school in Bradford district.

The project centres on Bradford’s long established recording and rehearsal facility Factory Street Studios, with support and funding from Bradford Music Education Hub.

Local mentors with experience in the music industry will visit schools and colleges across the district to engage with students.

The focus is on both performing and backstage careers such as managers and technicians, venue, event and artist management, music production, PR, sales and marketing, sound and lighting, and promotion.

The summer scheme will offer a serious introduction to the courses that Sound Of Bradford will provide when it launches next year.

Mentors and tutors include singer Vanessa Maria, who has performed at Keighley venues, Keighley hip-hop artist Shades (aka Ant Henderson), and Mike Green who runs Haworth singer-songwriter group NWXN.
