A performance group from South Craven, which premiered a new musical in Skipton last weekend, has been nominated for an award.

GTS Performing Arts, formerly known as Glusburn Theatre School, presented the first-ever UK performance of S'Cool last Saturday.

The performance coincided with GTS being nominated as the Best Community Group in the 2016 North Yorkshire County Council Community Awards, which recognise, celebrate and showcase the work carried out by volunteers and communities across the county.

The winners of the 2016 North Yorkshire County Council Community Awards will be announced at the Wider Partnership Conference on October 21.

GTS, led by director Dev Swan, was launched in 2006 and met at Glusburn Institute before moving to Farnhill and Kildwick Institute in 2013 then to Skipton Town Hall.

Dev said: "In song, dialogue and movement S'Cool captures the highs and lows of a 'day in the life' of young people.

"Quiet in the classroom and drama in the hallways pretty much sums up the feeling among most young people regarding their school day.

"Humorous, poignant and hopeful, S'Cool will touch audiences with its honesty as it charges though the real world of a school day.

"Extra dialogue was written by a senior GTS Performing Arts student Gabriel Williamson, who we will miss as he goes off to university after this show."
