LONG-established local choirs the Oxnop Singers and KVU Singers will perform concerts next month.

The Oxnop Singers will perform their annual home-village concert at Oxenhope Community Centre on Sunday October 9 at 7.15pm.

The group are renowned across the Worth Valley for their long-running series of ‘Our Kind of Music’ shows.

As usual they have invited a local band to take part in the concert with them, this time the Hall Royd Band.

The programme will include songs by the Beach Boys, a medley from the musical Evita, and other well-known songs. A spokesman said: “Be prepared for a really enjoyable evening!”

The KVU Singers promise a special musical evening when they perform at Fountains Abbey on Saturday. October 1.

The Sutton-based choir will perform in the abbey’s Cellarium on October 1 between 7pm and 8pm.

The programme will include sacred works by Hans Leo Hassler, Lodovico Viadana and Rachmaninov, and songs by modern arrangers such as Bob Chilcott, John Rutter and Ken Johnston.

Tickets for the event cost £6.50 for adults and £3.25 for children. Refreshments and guided tours of the abbey are available.

KVU Singers will perform a Celebrity Concert at Christ Church, Skipton, on October 22.

They will share the stage from 7.30pm with Thom Hardaker, the world champion accordion player from Sutton were trained in St Petersburg, and Vahan Salorian.

The KVU Singers make their annual visit to Freckleton Methodist Church on December 11 to perform Handel’s famous oratorio The Messiah.

KVU Singers, formed in 1906 as Keighley Vocal Union, practise at 7.30pm every Wednesday at South Craven Baptist Church on Holme Lane in Sutton.
