TICKETS for the visit of the Flying Scotsman to Keighley are flying out of the window.

More than four out of every five tickets have been sold for the nine-day appearance by the famous steam train.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway when the Scotsman is in residence from April 1 to 9.

KWVR spokesman Sarah Howsen this week said that 83 per cent of tickets – which include travel and carriages pulled by the train – had already been sold.

The Flying Scotsman will be in steam and on display at Rail Story, Ingrow, on April 1, 2, 8 and 9 between 8.30am and 6pm.

Entry to Ingrow yard will require a special day ticket to be bought, which will include unlimited travel on the railway's steam trains between Oxenhope and Keighley.

From April 3 to April 7 inclusive the Flying Scotsman will be hauling passenger trains between Keighley and Oxenhope each day. Tickets for these journeys must be bought in advance.

The Flying Scotsman, built in Doncaster in the 1920s, became the first train to break the 100 mph barrier in 1934. It is now owned by the National Railway Museum in York.
