AIDA and La Boheme will be performed at Bradford Alhambra next month by the Ellen Kent opera and ballet company.

Aida is described as the grandest of all Ellen Kent’s popular operas and is returning with a new traditional production.

This tragic story of war, jealousy and revenge is centred on the doomed love of the beautiful Ethiopian slave girl, Aida, and the Egyptian hero, Radames.

Featuring one of the greatest pieces of music Verdi ever wrote with the well-known arias Celeste Aida, Ritorna Vincitor and the classic Triumphal March, the production also includes a temple dance, cascades of glittering gold and fire performers.

La Bohème is regarded as one of the most romantic operas ever written, and tells the heart-breaking tale of the doomed, consumptive Mimi and her love for a penniless writer.

This classic story of Parisian love and loss features many famous arias including Your Tiny Hand Is Frozen, They Call Me Mimi and Musetta’s Waltz.

The opera will also include a brass band, snow effects and Musetta’s dog.

The opera will star French soprano Olga Perrier as Musetta and introduce the Russian soprano Ecaterina Danu as Mimi.

The pair will also perform in Aida, along with Romanian National Opera mezzo singer Liza Kadelnik as Amneris.

Aida will be on Sunday, February 5 and La Bohème will be on Monday, February 6.
