BRANWELL Brontë’s adventures in motion are highlighted in two events during the early spring in Haworth.

The Brontë Parsonage Museum is laying on the events as part of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the notorious brother of Emily, Charlotte and Anne.

Branwell And His Travels is the title of the latest Parsonage Unwrapped event in which after-hours visitors are treated to behind-the-scenes secrets in addition to a lecture.

Branwell had ambitions to be a “man of the world”, and certainly had more contact with the world outside the Parsonage than his younger siblings.

But how well-travelled was he really? The event will allow visitors to hear about Branwell”s trip to Cumbria, Liverpool and North Wales, and find out if he really did make a trip to London to present his drawings to the Royal Academy of Arts.

Parsonage Unwrapped will be on Friday, March 31, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £20 for adults and £17.50 for concessions and Brontë Society members, including a glass of wine.

Branwell Brontë: Off The Rails is the title of a special talk at the Brontë Parsonage Museum, repeated 10 times during the visit of the Flying Scotsman locomotive to the nearby Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

A spokesman said: “With Flying Scotsman travelling up and down the track at the bottom of the valley, a free talk will focus on Branwell and his brief career on the railway.

“Hear about his time as railway clerk at Luddendenfoot in Calderdale and find out why his career came to such an abrupt end. Did he really go off the rails?”

The talks will be on April 1, 2, 4, 8 and 9, at 11.30am and 2pm. The talks are free with admission to the museum.
