APRIL Fools is the title of a comedy-oriented burlesque night in Keighley on Saturday.

Keighley burlesque performer Bobbie Dazzler – alias Sian Chatburn – is again staging her 8pm event at Pilky’s Bar in Heber Street.

Headliner is Kiki Lovechild, a visual artist who packed out all his performances at last year’s Edinburgh Festival.

There will also be local band Siren and Strings, drag king Carmen Mi Amore, method actor and comedian Mrs No Overall and Seedy Frills.

Bobbie herself will, as usual, be performing, this time a routine she presented in the BBC2 programme Our Dancing Town and at last year’s Edinburgh Festival.

She said: “It is a crowd-pleaser!

“It is the act I will be taking to the London Burlesque Festival.

“We’re still working very hard to bring top class entertainment to Keighley. Our shows are becoming more and more popular and it’s a great alternative to the pub! Our whole show is seated with table service for drinks and we encourage dressing to impress.

“We love challenging people’s ideas of what burlesque is, and I can guarantee that if you have never been to a burlesque show before, it will be completely different to what you may imagine it to be.”

Bobbie said the latest show is mostly based around comedy acts, and she firmly believes she is bringing some of the best performers in the country to Keighley.

She added: “Our compere, Diane Onstage, has built up a huge following of her own, and she will be introducing our acts and keeping things moving with her razor-sharp wit.

“Our headliner is Kiki Lovechild, an amazing performer who has his own one-man show at the Edinburgh Festival that is packed at every performance and is critically-acclaimed.

“Kiki is a visual artist and can make you laugh or cry without ever saying a word.

“Carmen Mi Amore is a relatively new performer, but has won award after award with her ‘drag king’ act, which she will be bringing along with another more traditional act.

“Carmen is an unconventional performer, but we like that at Bobbie Dazzler Burlesque!

“Mrs No Overall is a classically-trained method actor and stand-up comedian, who will have people rolling in the aisles!

“Seedy Frills is a wonderful performer, who came second in the Legend in the Making competition at the Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival last year, and she has been wowing audiences ever since.”

Siren and Strings, who recently played the Golden Fleece in Oakworth, are an acoustic covers band performing an eclectic selection of songs with a laid-back chill, coupled with a unique edge of passion and spirit.

Tickets for the April Fools burlesque cost £12.50 in advance, from Pilky’s or Sequins fancy dress shop in High Street, Keighley, or by e-mailing bobbiedazzler@yahoo.co.uk. Tickets cost £15 on the door. Doors open at 7pm.
