EDDI Reader brings her ‘Best Of’ tour to Victoria Hall in Saltaire on April 28.

The charismatic Scottish singer will perform songs from her first career spanning compilation album, which collected 30 of her “consistently beautiful, often deeply personal and intimate” songs.

Eddi, classed as “one of the great voices in British music” by Acoustic magazine, has been recording for 30 years.

The Best includes the charming acoustic pop of 1988 chart-topper Perfect, with Fairground Attraction, right up to her remarkable 2015 versions of the standard Moon River and Amy Winehouse’s Love Is A Losing Game.

Everlasting favourites are in abundance, including her 1992 recording of the Fred Neil song Dolphins and 2003’s Wild Mountainside, a poetic ballad written for Eddi by partner and songwriter, John Douglas.

The Best Of Eddi Reader is set up to give an insight into the singer’s wide-ranging artistry and songwriting, showcasing her knack for picking a great song and then making it her own.

She said: “Every time I record I rarely listen again, so when I do hear something I’ve done I get surprised and my mind hasn’t time to pick it apart.

“When I listened through this collection I found myself reconnecting with every chord, melodic shift, percussion push and vocal thread. It reminded me of myself like little Polaroids. I can’t believe how beautiful it is – I am very proud of this music.”

Eddi Reader grew up in Glasgow and Irvine, Scotland, learning to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at local folk clubs.

In the early 1980s, Eddi travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before becoming a session vocalist in London. Fairground Attraction brought her into the limelight, with iconic single Perfect and parent album First of a Million Kisses both topping the British charts.
