MUSICIANS from the Aire Valley are uniting to perform a gig protesting about plans for an incinerator in the valley.

The acoustic afternoon concert intends to raise both public awareness and funds for the Aire Valley Against Incineration campaign.

The venue is the East St Arts Space, in the old Sunwin House building on Hanover Street, on Saturday May 20, from 11.30am to 4pm.

The organiser is blues singer-songwriter Ben Blue Waters and he’ll be joined by traditional bluesman Phil Thorne, 60s covers artist Milly Shimbles, singer-songwriter Johnny B, traditional and modern folk guitarist Henry Parker, and singer-songwriter Mila Lee:

Ben said: “We’re doing this because we are all appalled at the prospect of the incinerator, and the pollution and extra HGV traffic it will create in our home valley.

“We hope this will be the first of several musical fund and awareness-raising events.”

The venue’s cafe will be open for drinks and snacks, and there will be a stall run by AVAI where the public can talk to the campaigners, get information leaflets and sign petitions.

Admission is free, with voluntary donations gratefully accepted.

AVAI are fighting plans for a waste to energy incinerator in Keighley, at the side of the Aire Valley Bypass in Marley.

The campaigners received a blow last month when the Government decided not to ‘call in’ the proposals for the facility.
