Spring Concert – Haworth Baptist Amateurs
FROM London’s West End to Haworth West Lane was the title for the village Gilbert and Sullivan society’s spring concert at West Lane Baptist Church.
From the outset we were treated to a wide variety of solos and chorus items from many well-known shows.
The choruses were almost all in four part harmony and extremely well sung by members more accustomed to G&S roles. Their enthusiasm, humour and sheer pleasure in the various items shone through.
Musical director, David Root, achieved astonishing finesse in preparing, performing and accompanying the show on piano, which was directed by Christine Ingham.
There were some choruses where we, the audience, were invited to join in, which was great fun. There were so many goodies that it seems unfair to single out a special mention, but I will – James Gill’s rendition of Love Changes Everything did it for me.
This wonderful group are shortly starting rehearsals for their November performances of The Gondoliers and judging from this spring show, I believe all will be well.
