KEIGHLEY people will finally have a chance to see a nationally-renowned folk music and dance band when they play home territory.

The Demon Barbers will perform the ‘XL’ version of their Disco At The Tavern show as part of the opening celebrations for the restored Cliffe Castle Park on July 30.

The band, whose leader Damien Barber lives in Haworth, will bring together folk and hip hop on the pack’s bandstand.

Meanwhile the Demon Barbers will perform a ‘remixed’ version of their Lock In theatre show at your Theatre Royal on September 16, following its performance at the Glastonbury Festival.

Damian said: “We’ve had a very exciting spring developing our Lock In Remixed show.

“As with The Lock In Christmas Carol we worked closely with scriptwriter Stacey Sampson along with adding elements of Grimms’ fairy tales and a large dose of hilarity to our folk and hip hop dance extravaganza!

“The show launched at Wakefield Theatre Royal in May and was a great success. We’re eager to hit the road with our ‘Folk Fairy Tale’ in the coming months.

“In April we were lucky enough to take part in this year’s Costa Del Folk Festival held in Ibiza. We performed our XL show and also ran workshops in Morris, Rapper Sword, Clog and Street Dance.

As usual, the Demon Barbers have invited dance groups across the country to perform at venues before the performances.

More than 150 dance groups and 2000-plus dancers perform during the most recent Lock In, and XL shows.”

The Demon Barbers won Best Live Act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and went on to create English dance spectacular The Lock In, set in a pub where Morris and hip-hop dancers clash.
