A PSYCHEDELIC rock band who regularly play Keighley have been signed by a US record label.

The band 69 have been snapped up by legendary Los Angeles-based music producer, arranger and Rock Radio Station owner Gerry Gallagher.

He will sign the trio – whose members include Keighley-born Alastair Harnby and Bingley’s Dave Johnson – to his Sounds of Los Angeles (SOLA) label.

The band will also feature on Gerry’s soon-to-be-released compilation album of modern-retro arrangements of 60s and 70s epic hits.

That’s one of the specialisms of 69, who consist of local musicians who played in bands in decades past, including Mick Jackson from 60s global hit makers Love Affair.

Gallagher has had a huge influence over the shape and sound of music over the last five decades working with artists Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Aerosmith, Frank Sinatra, Phil Collins, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, TOTO and Santana.

He said: “Having been in the music biz all my life, I am always drawn to and interested in bands that exhibit the excitement and magic of the 1960s through to the early 80s.

“In my opinion, this period in time was the renaissance of rock music.

“I was delighted to come across a band that fills me with nostalgic emotion yet they are full of modern day-appealing music.”

Gerry, particularly likes late 60s-style psychedelic rock, and he recognised 69 as being a driving force in the resurgence of this style of music.

He plans to produce 69’s upcoming singles, EP and album and give the band prominent exposure on his Rock Radio networks around the world,.

The band 69 can be seen at the Wireless Bar, North Parade, Bradford, on Saturday, June 15; Exchange Arts Centre, Keighley, on August 25; and the Harley Davidson Bikers Festival, Bulls Head, Baildon, on August 26
