THE PIECE Hall in Halifax has set out to welcome the world this summer with international free events.

There are ‘walk up events’ for everyone, and weekenders of street performance, comedy, music and theatre filling the courtyard with artists from around the world.

The first in a series of cultural seasons, ‘Welcome’ will run from August 18 to September 2.

A giant inflatable immersive installation will take up residence in the Piece Hall with a wondrous maze of colour and design.

Architects of Air, who have travelled to 40 countries across the world and are marking their 25th anniversary, will perform Albesila on August 25 to 28 from noon till 7pm.

The free show will be in a stunning new luminarium, a giant inflated sculpture half the size of a football pitch and nine-metres high, with domes, mazes and intimate pods.

Visitors are invited to explore the seamless tunnels and spiralling spaces, immersing themselves in a vivid world of colour and sensory sound.

The first Welcome Weekend will be on August 19 and 20 from noon till 5pm, with street performance, music, comedy and theatre in the courtyard. Tickets not required.

The Smallest Theatre in the World will present Hound of the Baskervilles, a comedy of errors performed to an audience of two inside the sidecar of a Royal Enfield Motorbike.

Circus Raj are Rajasthani street performers including dancers, illusionists, aerialists, stilt walkers, acrobats and slack-rope walkers.
