SILSDEN residents can step back in time as the Town Hall recalls the music of the war years.

The nostalgic evening of dance and song will feature Kitty La Mare, whose act encompasses jazz, swing and musical theatre.

Music will also be provided by the jitterbugging disc jockey Company B, otherwise known as well-known local barber and historian Jeff Walbank.

Also entertaining will be the Airedale Swing Dance Community, whose members will demonstrate and lead cool dance moves across the ballroom floor.

The event at the Kirkgate venue on Friday October 27 is being organised by the Friends of Silsden Town Hall.

A spokesman said: “Over 70 years ago regular wartime dances held at Silsden Town Hall lifted spirits and boosted morale, as local musicians belted out the sounds of Glen Miller, the Andrews Sisters and Vera Lynn.

“Now, the magical music and evocative atmosphere of the 1940s is set to return to the ballroom for the first time since that iconic era came to an end.”

Friends chairman Ray Colling said it felt a real privilege to be re-creating part of the town’s musical history, especially from such a memorable era.

Tickets for the Big 1940s Night Out, which lasts from 7.30pm to 11pm, are available at £10 each from Twiggs newsagents in Kirkgate. A bar and light refreshments will also be available.
