HIDDEN Figures will be the first film of 2018 to be screened at Glusburn Institute.

The PG-certificate movie is set during the USA’s race to put a man into space ahead of the Russians.

In this true story NASA finds an untapped source of talent –African-American woman mathematicians who excel as ‘human computers’.

The film stars Taraji P Henson as Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who calculated flight trajectories for Project Mercury and other missions.

She is joined by Octavia Spencer as NASA supervisor Dorothy Vaughan and Janelle Monáe as NASA engineer Mary Jackson, with Kevin Costner and Kirsten Dunst in supporting roles.

Hidden Figures will be screened at the Glusburn Institute, the village’s arts and community centre, on Friday January 5.
