The cream of British folk performers will be flocking to Cleckheaton next month for the town's annual folk festival.

Now in its 21st year, it is one of the longest-running folk festivals in the country and will feature more than 20 acts over three days.

Among the acts appearing are Acoustica, a husband-and-wife duo from Newcastle.

Andy and Catherine Higgins have carved a reputation as a vibrant fixture on the live acoustic music scene, describing their sound as 'newcontemporary folk.' Andy plays six and 12-string guitars, tiple and ukulele, and Cath plays violin, guitar and accordion. Both lend their distinctive voices to individual interpretations of songs as well as blending fine vocal harmonies.

Debut album Welcome to showcased their songwriting and versatile instrumental skills and current album The Oban Sessions presents the duo's live sound.

Acoustica are at St Paul's Church Hall, Cleckheaton, on Saturday, June 14. For tickets ring (01274) 878293. Support acts include local artists Dave Minich, Russ Hughes and Pete Higgins, all from Croppers Folk Club, Cleckheaton, held every Friday night at The Priory in the town.

The festival will feature a full programme of concerts throughout the town as well as attractions such as workshops, dance sides, sing-arounds and musicians' sessions, the regular Saturday morning parade, Cleckheaton farmers' market, street entertainment and a family fun day.

Cleckheaton Folk Festival runs at Cleckheaton Town Hall and other venues around the town from July 4 to 6. Tickets are available on (01924) 404346 or cleckheatonfolkfestival.org
