KVU Singers (formerly Keighley Vocal Union) would like to invite everyone to this year’s Young Musicians Concert.

This is the time when the Singers, led by our musical director, Frank Smith, take a supporting role (yes, we will still be singing!) and encourage local young talent to take centre stage.

This year we are delighted to welcome Tommy Consterdine (cello), Lucy Lund (flute and piano) and CAOS Academy (music theatre).

Tommy, at the grand old age of 14, has been playing the cello since he was six. Indeed, when he first started to learn, he was so small he needed a 1/8th size cello, only moving to a full-size instrument 18 months ago. Tommy, about to take his Grade 7 exam, plays with the Bradford Youth Orchestra and the combined Ermysted’s/Skipton Girls school orchestra.

Lucy Lund is 17 years old and head girl at Woodhouse Grove School where she is studying music, French and geography for her A-levels. She has been studying piano and flute for several years and will be playing both at the concert. Despite a busy academic life, Lucy still finds time for netball and swimming.

Finally we move slightly further afield, to Sheffield, for a contribution from the Academy of CAOS Musical Theatre Society, an offshoot of Chapeltown Amateur Operatic Society. Although the parent company is over 100 years old the academy was formed just 14 years ago to give children a chance to experience performing and appear on stage, and to encourage a love of music which we all hope will accompany them throughout their adult lives.

I urge you to attend the concert and support these young musicians. I think that with this wealth of talent you will be well rewarded.

The concert take places at 2.30pm on Sunday (October 15) at Christ Church, Skipton.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children and can be booked online at kvusingers.co.uk or by contacting 07866 763840.
