Christmas has come early for Keighley blues fans with two flagship concerts this month.

Keighley Blues Club said its gigs were by the undisputed top two blues outfits in the north-west of England.

Smokehouse headline tomorrow while The Stumble return for the fifth time on December 17.

Smokehouse, a quartet specialising in Chicago and West Coast blues, is making its third visit to the club.

The band is fronted by ace harp player and vocalist Jonny Hewitt, and the line-up also includes double bass, drums and guitar.

Smokehouse has gone from strength to strength since first playing Keighley in 2005.

Their set is likely to include Louis Jordan’s Caldonia, Rice Miller’s Eyesight To The Blind and Walter Horton’s slow blues Hard Hearted Woman.

Providing support will be local act Long Trick whose musical influences include Fred McDowell, Sonny Boy Williamson and RL Burnside.

The Stumble, who have played the Keighley club more times than any other band, are again back by popular demand.

A club spokesman said: "The Stumble is dedicated to the red hot rapturous live feel of electric Chicago blues and will be providing the dancers with every encouragement to get down and boogie.

"Energy abounds in this band and with two guitars and a sax in the front line there is plenty of variety in the playing. "And then there is Paul Melville, singing his heart out and encouraging everyone on to the dance floor. A great front man in front of an excellent band. "The Stumble look like they are enjoying themselves and want everyone to have the same experience."

the audience can expect to hear songs by Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf and Peter Green as well as stumble originals.

Starting off the evening will be local blues band The Blues Jukes who feature Keighley's Wayne Marshall on lead guitar.

Coming up at Keighley Blues Club: Italian/British soulful, funky blues ensemble Fuschi3, January 7; Manfred Mann founder Paul Jones and Blues Band's Dave Kelly, January 21; Edinburgh-based River Devils, January 28; rock and jazz-influenced Perthshire sextet Wang Dang Delta, February 18; Alaskan lap steel guitar virtuoso Son Henry Band, March 18.
