A knight to laugh your socks off is promised as the irreverent and hilarious musical returns to West Yorkshire.

It's pantomime with a few swear words as King Arthur and his misfit knights go in search of the Holy Grail.

There's a killer bunny, plague victims who won't die, an 'armless sentry, a cross-dressing prince and a scene-stealing Lady of the Lake. All this mayhem is punctuated by catchy and witty songs, nods to iconic Python sketches, and parodies of other musicals.

I enjoyed Tuesday's first night more than the same production in Leeds last year.

This was mainly due to the performances -- James Gaddas brilliant as King Arthur, plus Jodie Prenger, Todd Carty and a terrific supporting cast.

Spamalot likes to look as if it's cheap and knocked-together, but believe me this is a very slick show.

It says a lot that we missed hearing some gags because each time we were laughing so much at the previous one.
