Trick or treaters will have to try hard to be more scary than Tony Fedorniak this Halloween.

His home-made full-size Predator suit -- recalling the 1980s movie -- is the stuff of nightmares.

Every detail, down to the skin tone, equipment and clothing, has been lovingly crafted over hundreds of hours.

Tony, 43, from Riddlesden, wanted to look just like one of alien creatures that tangled with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original movie.

He hopes to parade in public with fellow sci-fi fans who have made similar suits in the UK and USA.

He has also been planning a Halloween visit for disabled students he got to know while caretaker of Branshaw Special School.

Making the suit has cost as much as £1,000 and is the latest step in a lifelong devotion to science fiction.

The Predator was a heavily armed alien who stalked humans in a similar way to big game hunters tracking lions.

The creature encounters US commandos in the jungles of Central America and traps them one by one.

Tony, 43, said: "I've liked Predator since it came out. It's one of my top three films."

Two years ago he moved from simply reading and watching sci-fi to getting actively involved, after learning about groups who dress up as Star Wars characters.

He said: "I went to Wales for a day and saw Darth Vader and six stormtroopers walking through the streets."

Tony joined the 99th Garrison, a family-friendly national group who dress as Imperial Stormtroopers.

The Yorkshire branch has about 70 members including about 30 who wear costumes.

He "troops" with his fellow stormtroopers to raise money for charities like Help the Heroes, with appearances at shopping centres and birthday parties.

Tony said: "We went two years ago to a troop in London and I saw two predators. I thought "wow" and asked about it.

"They were members of Hunters Lair, an Internet forum with 5000 members who discuss Predator.

"A lot of guys have suited up -- there are about eight or nine in the UK.

"I found that they were able to make suits. A full suit would cost $4,000 to buy but this one has cost me about a third of that."

Tony started by buying a adapting a superhero suit based on Disney film The Incredibles, covering himself in duct tape and foam. Unhappy with this first version, he used plaster of Paris to make a cast of himself, sculpted a mould then painted on latex to create a close-fitting suit.

He painted elaborate reptilian skin effects onto the body, hands and feet, and added foam-rubber dreadlocks to a specially-sculpted head.

Tony also went to great lengths to create authentic weaponry, clothing and accessories from plastic, material and balsa wood.

He now hopes to join other costumed Predator fans on a "troop" or attend conventions with them.

He also hopes to find sponsorship so he can go to ComicCon, the world's leading science fiction convention in the States.

Tony, who has two daughters Giovanna and Arianna, needs help from his family to get in and out of the suit.

He said: "It's a bit warm in that suit. I literally pour sweat out of my gloves."
