Best-ever results for Hi-Energy

A Keighley dance school has achieved its best-ever results in one of the UK's most prestigious freestyle contests.

Girls from Hi-Energy Dance Academy reached the finals in every age group of the Welsh three-day international.

The dancers have done extremely well for several years at the competition at a holiday camp in Phwelli.

Hi-Energy, based in Ingrow, entered dancers from six years old to adult at levels from beginner to championship.

The competitive dance styles included solo and pairs disco freestyle, rock 'n' roll, slow dance and hip-hop.

Hi-Energy principal Julie Cardus-Anderson said in slow dance alone her dancers claimed five out of the seven final places in the different age groups.

The girls were Rebecca Lynam, Charlotte Blacka, Rebecca Brown, Rachael White and Jodie Swift.

Rebecca Brown qualified to enter the international starter level "Best of the Best", beating girls from Norway and Scotland to win first place.

Said: "Rebecca through her commitment and pure dedication was proud to place Keighley firmly on the dance map.

Jodie Swift and Jade Taylor went on to become "Best of the Best" respectively in adult slow dance and adult hip-hop.

Julie said the results proved Keighley was awash with talent.

She said children joined Hi-Energy classes or school workshops as beginners and went on to competitive level.

She said: "The results have demonstrated the commitment and superior quality of all dancers, choreographers and coaches.

"I am extremely proud of all involved and cannot wait to enter our next major event in October."
