Like a juicy jam pasty your granny used to make.

That’s the description given to one of the latest bands to play at Haworth’s monthly Groovy Happening.

Ed Stones & The BD3 will perform at the Happening on Saturday at the Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane.

Singer-songwriter Ed, born in Grantham and now based in Bradford, has evolved from a solo artist into a musical collective.

He promises to provide a range of sounds from alternative country rock to soul, rockabilly and punk.

A spokesman said: “This comes via the blues with a pit stop at the rock ‘n’ roll school, topped off nicely with catchy melodies, great lyrics and lush harmonies.

“Groovy Happening has waited a long time for this performance!”

Also on Saturday’s line-up will be The Rockets, a Skipton/Leeds based three-piece blues-rock band who have played together under that name for about two years.

The musicians have played with other bands and promise 60s and 70s blues, in a set of nostalgic tunes.

MESA, who are also playing, are a UK-based guitar band formed in 2013 from established solo artists.

Brian J Comber has spent the last year playing more than 100 shows nationwide and previously played with acoustic touring band Jacksonville.

Cal Clark has moved locally following a strong music career in Scotland, playing with many top bands and has toured the world.

Now together as MESA, they combine strong guitar work with clear and natural harmonies.

Kicking off the Happening will be Rod Finlayson, former organiser of Burnley Folk Club, and Mike Highley who are both very able and experienced singer/songwriters.

The spokesman said: “Don’t let their easy going stage manner fool you, there will be a lot of good music from them on the Groovy stage on Saturday!”

Doors open 7.30pm, admission £3, proceeds to Manorlands. Disco till late.
