Organisers of the next Calverley Folk Day are busy strumming up interest from acts.

Musicians from across Yorkshire are already lining up to be a part of the village’s second folk day on April 26.

The event follows the Calverley’s successful first festival last summer.

The New Inn and Thornhill pubs will be welcoming instrument players and singers throughout the day for informal jamming sessions and sing-arounds starting at 1pm.

“There’s an open invitation to any musicians and dance groups wanting to come and join us in the local pubs and, of course, to people who want to come along and just listen,” said one of the organisers, Kathie Griffiths.

“Word is getting out and we’re hearing from acts who performed last year and others who’ve heard about us on the grapevine and want to be a part of it this time round.”

Evening bands so far include the Free Sandwiches at the New Inn from 9pm with their own eclectic take on folk, Eastern European and music hall sounds.

Performing at the Thornhill from 7.30pm will be The Heathen Kings, a high-energy folk-rock band, who are familiar faces at clubs and festivals.

The New Inn will have a running order of acts throughout the day including bluegrass, skiffle and folk band Redgrass, who are new to Calverley Folk Day, and happy returners acoustic duo Rum Doodle and singer Heather Woodhouse with her guitar – not forgetting Muppett who will be doubling up as MC and performing his own unique brand of Tyke dialect songs.
