The Cricketers Arms is celebrating five rib-tickling years of stand-up comedy with a show on April 24.

The comedy show at the Coney Lane pub will feature Junior Simpson, Roger Monkhouse and resident MC Chris Brooker.

Organiser James Mitchell said local people had been able to see big comedy acts in Keighley for just £5 a time.

He said: “Since the first show in April of 2009 the club has gone from strength to strength hosting capacity audiences and often being name-checked as one of the places that acts love to come and play.

“The Cricks' faithful has been treated to stars of the comedy industry like Justin Moorhouse, Rob Rouse and familiar faces from the likes of Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow and Live At The Apollo.

“Acts from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have taken tales of the amazing audience from the modest Yorkshire town across the globe.

“It's rapidly becoming one of the places that you have to play.”

The birthday gig is a double-header featuring “highly original and quirky” Roger Monkhouse, who prowls the stage with a curious and inimitable manner, and “true legen” Junior Simpson.

James said: “Roger’s forte is delivering intelligent, thought provoking material that pulls no punches and is always incisive, relevant and up to date.”

“Junior is a veteran of stage and screen and is immediately recognisable from his appearances in shows like The Real McCoy. He is fast, funny and guaranteed to rip the roof off to end the night.”

There will also be two support acts as well as MC Chris Brooker.

James said: “No doubt Chris will spend much of the night complaining that his relationship with The Cricketers has outlasted any relationship he's ever had with a girl.”

Tickets cost £5 in advance by calling at the Cricketers.
