The former lead singer of Manchester indie band Inspiral Carpets is the Friday headliner at the Summer Jam.

Tom Hingley will perform a solo set at the open-air music festival on the Riverside Fields in Silsden.

He will combine his old band’s classic singles with an eclectic mix of soul, rock ‘n’ roll and blues.

Summer Jam festival takes place on Riverside Fields, Silsden, over the August Bank Holiday weekend of August 22 to 24.

Tom will take the stage on the Friday evening, when house and soul music fans will also be dancing the night away to top club DJs like Mick Tole, Longy and Derek Pearson.

Tom will be supported by Bad Cardigan, a two-piece indie acoustic act from Great Harwood, East Lancashire Tom said: “Summer Jam will be a real treat for all fans of music, new and old.

“Expect a wonderful live experience full of an eclectic mix of material for anyone who likes music from the past five decades. I'm really proud to be part of that.”

For 22 years Tom Hingley fronted Inspiral Carpets – one of the pioneers of the Manchester music scene – and sang on all the band’s chart hits.

Along with The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets were instrumental in kick-starting an international cultural explosion called Madchester. Classic songs such as This is How it Feels and Saturn 5 helped propel them to international stardom, with a following of millions around the world.

Tom now performs a solo acoustic set and has released several critically acclaimed albums which veer from acoustic material to a punkier, grittier experience.
