The sounds of the swampland come to Laycock Village Hall tonight.

That’s when the Bronte Blues Club plays host to Larry Garner from blues-soaked Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Good humour, outrageous philosophising, fluid guitar work and top-notch blues are promised.

With his Boogaloo Blues Band, Larry won the fifth International Blues Challenge in 1988 and he has toured extensively since. He was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 2002, has been named Blues Songwriter of the Year three times, and has twice received the Bluesman of the Year Award from Real Blues magazine.

Blues Club spokesman Maggie Marsden said: “Larry appeared at the Bronte Blues Club in 2011 – ably supported by his sidekicks the Norman Beaker Band – and together they brought the house down. “Keep On Singing the Blues isn’t just the title of his self-penned live album, it’s also his manifesto; he regularly thanks the audience for ‘...keepin’ the Blues alive’!”

Maggie said that Larry’s relationship with the Bronte Blues audience was special. She said: “There are three tracks from this ensemble on the members-only CD One Night In Laycock, including one of Larry's famous tall tales.”

Maggie said the last gig at the club, by Andy Fairweatherlow and the Lowriders, was amazingly good. She added: “The place was packed and the atmosphere electric. The band clearly enjoyed the evening.”

Andy said that in terms of authentic blues atmosphere, the Laycock gig easily compared to those he had played at the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Stadium. The club’s house band BBC5 will provide support tomorrow. Doors open at 7.30pm. Visit bronteblues.com or the Turkey Inn at Goose Eye for tickets.
