A KEIGHLEY theatre group borrowed a chant from the Maoris to celebrate the Tour de France.

The Big Soup actors filmed their performance of the self-written Haka celebrating the joys of Yorkshire.

The two-minute chant, filmed at several locations across the region, was screened at the Tour Hubs in Keighley and Haworth.

A haka is a traditional Maori dance from New Zealand, and the most famous one is performed by the All Blacks rugby team before their matches.

Big Soup leader Tracie Vee said her group’s lyrics spoke about cups of tea and curries, and contained dialect words like sithee.

“The guys went round Keighley and Haworth and filmed a line here and a line there," she said.

“It’s a belter of a theme.”

The filming involved about 60 members of Big Soup, who have learning disabilities, along with members of the Bumblebees multi-ability rugby team.
